The New Citizen Crime Watch

No one’s really keeping count, but since Citizen Crime Watch was created in January 2007 a rough estimate of the amount of time dedicated to Citizen Crime Watch is in excess of an estimated 1600 hours have been invested in design, development, data management, and advocacy.

It would be difficult to place a value on that time spent.

There remain many more dreams for what this Web site could provide to the community, and many more challenges before those dreams are fulfilled.

Here are some of the ideas which could be realized with your help:

  • Customized crime searches delivered to users by e-mail or text message so you can be alerted as soon as a crime pattern becomes apparent.
  • Crime hot sheets to report incidents will immediately appear on the map, and will be immediately forwarded to the respective NOPD district officer. This way, the NOPD can easily identify what the community sees as problem areas, and respond appropriately.
  • Specialized reporting functionality so you can print out maps and reports for your neighborhood association meetings, or for your NONPACC meetings.

These are just three important priorities. There’s certainly much more that can be done.
