Friends and relatives of a Loyola University graduate who was killed Aug. 15 are raising money to create a scholarship in her memory.
Nia Robertson, who received a master’s degree in mass communication in 2004, was stabbed in Pal’s Bar near Bayou St. John. Erik Traczyk, who has been booked with first-degree murder in connection with her death, is in Orleans Parish Prison.
The scholarship bearing her name will go to a student in the School of Mass Communication who is interested in social causes and needs financial aid. Organizers hope to make the first award next fall, said Kristi Ayres, a close friend who is leading the fundraising drive.
At least $25,000 is needed to establish the award, she said. More information is available from Martha Bodker in Loyola’s Office of Institutional Advancement at (504) 861-5860.
