Letter to NOPD Superintendent Warren Riley, 12/19/08
NOPD Superintendent Warren Riley recently remarked to the City Council that, “People have to be cautious. They have to be smart.” In response to that statement, I sent a letter to Riley asking how people could be cautious when the NOPD still isn’t properly informing them of crime activity.
How, exactly, should people be cautious? Where, precisely, should they be cautious? When should they be cautious? How can they be smart when you have, either through negligence or deliberate intent, acted in ways which are contrary to the purpose of informing the community of public safety threats?
After more than two weeks, neither Warren Riley nor Ray Nagin have responded, not even to acknowledge receipt of the letter. This is a serious breach of public trust.
