A 19-year-old man gunned down Thursday in St. Roch was a witness in a murder case that had been scheduled to go to trial earlier this month but was postponed because of Hurricane Gustav.
Darrick Jack died about 6 p.m. in the 2000 block of Franklin Avenue, shot several times in his chest, arm and back, according to police.
Almost two years ago, on Oct. 18, 2006, Jack witnessed the shooting death of Milton Marcelin, 26, not far from where he died Thursday. Jack had been walking down North Rocheblave Street, heading to the store on an errand for his mother, according to a police report about the Marcelin case.
